Letter From the Principal May 18, 2012
Dear Parents,
Festival set up begins on Monday and your child’s safety is our top priority! Beginning Monday, May 21st, all students will enter and exit the school at the cafeteria doors (#5) facing Mechanic Street at the back of the school. Cars should line up on Mechanic Street facing east behind the cones and on Chicago Street. As we see parents, children will be sent to the cars. There is no room for parking until the Festival is set up. The bus pick-up and drop-off will be on Mechanic Street in front of the cones. Please remember that school is closed on Thursday, May 24th, and Friday, May 25th, with the festival beginning at 5:00 pm on both nights. Thank you in advance for your support of this most important fundraiser for our beloved school. Presale, unlimited, daily ride bracelets are on sale through next Wednesday in the office and online for $17. If you would like to purchase them online, go to www.stmaryofthelakeschool.com and look under the events tab. Click on summer festival and look for the “buy tickets now” icon. Bracelets purchased before the opening of the festival will save you $5 per bracelet!
Please remember to bring in your sold raffle tickets, donations for the Silent Auction and classroom baskets as well as donations of five 2-liter bottles of pop for the pop toss. The grade collecting the most pop will win an ice cream party for their class! We truly appreciate all the donations and hard work that so many put into the festival.
Don’t forget to gather your Rummage Sale donations together. They can be dropped off at door #6 behind the school on Tuesday, May 22, and Wednesday, May 23, from 9 am to 11 am and from 1 pm to 6 pm. Volunteers for the festival, especially in the rummage sale, are still needed. Please sign up at the front table by the school office.
Logo wear orders are due Monday, May 21st. Show your Laker spirit and school pride by placing your order today! We will call you over the summer to arrange pick up of orders.
John Michael Talbot, an American Roman Catholic singer- songwriter-guitarist, is performing in Benton Harbor on May 19th, 20th, and 21st, from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. Come experience his peaceful, serene and poignant music. It will truly be a beautiful concert, and I encourage all ages to attend.
St. Mary of the Lake School proudly presents “A Slice of Summer!” For the first time in many years, we are opening for summer camp for students who have completed Kindergarten through 5th grade. Join us for four weeks of educational fun! A Slice of Summer will be taught by our own Michigan certified teachers and run from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. We will offer 2 hours of academics geared specifically towards your child’s needs and themed, creative activities in the afternoons in addition to field trips! The cost is $100 per week for St. Mary’s students or $140 per week for students from other schools. See the attached flyer for more information.
Thank you again for all that you do to make St. Mary of the Lake School the wonderful place that it is! May the Lord bless us and keep us, and may His love shine through in everything we do.
Sincerely, Kate VanPelt Principal
