Letter From the Principal

January 26, 2012

Dear Parents,

It is with great sadness that I report Mrs. Mary Jo Kennedy, our beloved volunteer librarian, tutor, guitar instructor and retired 3rd grade teacher passed away unexpectedly earlier this week.  Funeral arrangements are pending. All of our students knew Mrs. Kennedy from their library time each Thursday.  St. Mary of the Lake School will have a special Mass said for Mrs. Kennedy in the near future.  I will let you know the date of our Mass and funeral arrangements as soon as they are finalized.  We will have a special prayer for Mrs. Kennedy at Peace Prayer on Monday morning.  Please keep Mrs. Kennedy and her family in your prayers.  She will be greatly missed here at St. Mary of the Lake.

School will be closed tomorrow, Friday, January 27th, for a teacher in-service day.  The teachers will use this time to finish their reports for our Accreditation Self Study which is due February 27th.  Kaleidoscope Preschool and Childcare will also be closed on this day.

Catholic Schools Week begins on Monday, January 30th through Friday, February 3rd.  This year’s theme is Catholic Schools – Faith, Academics, Service.  Spirit Week begins on Monday with Pajama/Bad Hair Day!  The schedule of events is attached.  I would like to invite you to our Catholic Schools Week school Mass on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.  It is also dress up day so please be sure your child is dressed for the occasion!  I would also like to invite you to our annual pep assembly on Friday, February 3rd, at 2:30 p.m. in the gym.  We will introduce the basketball teams, cheerleaders and coaches as well as enjoy a dance and cheers from the Laker Cheerleaders! We will also find out which class is the winner of Spirit Week!  I look forward to your participation in all of our upcoming Catholic Schools Week events!

Mardi Gras is scheduled for Saturday, February 11th, at 5:30 p.m. EST at the Grand Beach Village Hall.  The school donation letter and sponsor sheet is included in this week’s packet.  This is a major fundraiser for our school, and I encourage you to support our school by attending this fun-filled evening chaired by Mrs. Kelly Aroney.   A huge thank you is extended to Mrs. Aroney for all of her hard work and faithful support!  Mardi Gras has been and will continue to be a huge success with Kelly at the helm!  This event is one that many, including myself, look forward to every year.  Please be generous with your donations.

Last, but not least, I would like to welcome five new students from three new families!  Welcome Allyson, 6th grade, Nathan, 5th grade, Emma, 2nd grade, Abigail, 1st grade, and Emma, Kindergarten!  All of these students and their families are a wonderful addition to our school!  I am also very happy to report that we have 15 new students and 1 new preschool student already registered for next year.  Information on Kindergarten Round Up and School registration will be forthcoming.

Thank you again for all that you do to make St. Mary of the Lake School the wonderful place that it is!  May the Lord bless us and keep us, and may His love shine through in everything we do.

Sincerely,

Kate VanPelt
Principal
